While facebook is a great site for connecting with people you already know, it’s not a great place to meet people.  ilovewestdavis.com is what we call an open-local social network.  Every member can see everyone else in the system, and everyone is from the same place.  This is huge if you want to  start up a group or offer a service as people are more apt to take part in something that is unique to them and where they live.  After all, we already share something in common…we love living here on the west side of Davis county!

About the Project

This project began as a dream a few years back when my Pastor and father Derek Jones gave me the idea.  Our church, Lakeside Church, had been in the community for a few years and we wanted to come up with a way to give back.  He came up with the idea of a community website that served the residents of Syracuse.  It wasn’t feasible for us at the time and we had to table it for a few years.  When we started looking at the idea again in early 2009, we realized that the community we were involved in really stretched all the way north to West Point and Clinton as well.  We’re already networked, in that we share a high school, essential services and shop at each other’s businesses.  This site now gives us a place to formally connect with each other’s lives.

I want to thank Lakeside Church for supporting me, as well as the civic leaders in Syracuse, West Point and Clinton.  I also want to thank the residents for making it all possible.
